How “Chaiwala Sanjith” created his million dollar firm?

Sanjith

Sanjith dropped out of college and moved to Melbourne to start his own business. Since childhood, the idea of tea has attracted him, and he has become a chaiwala.

Some dreams are unique, such as that of Sanjith Konda House, who chose to become a “chaiwala” after dropping out of college instead of completing a degree and getting a decent job.

Sanjith could have completed his bachelor of business administration (BBA) at a top Australian university, but the 22-year-old chose to become a “tea-seller” in Melbourne instead and founded “dropout Chaiwala,” which has since grown to a million (Australian) dollar company in less than a year.

It’s a busy Sunday morning on Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD (Central Business District), and Indians, native Australians, and a few Hispanics are enjoying their favourite morning poison: a steaming cup of tea.

The glow sign ‘Dropout Chaiwala’ piqued the interest of an Indian tourist who stopped by for a quick second look. If you’re wondering what’s in a name, think again because a small tea shop has become one of Melbourne’s favourite hangouts for the Indian diaspora.

Here is Sanjith’s story in his own words:

“I Came here to study bachelor in business adminsstration at Latrobe university but I failed to complete my course. I became a college drop out and then I wanted my own start-up.

I was fascinated about tea from childhood and then conceived the idea of “Dropout chaiwala”,

According to the report, the tea and samosa shop has become popular not only among the Indian diaspora but also among some native Australians and Hispanics.

While the ‘Bombay Cutting’ is popular among Indians, the’masala chai’ is popular among Australians.

Sanjith estimated that his revenue would be around 1 million AUD (approximately Rs 5.2 crore) next month after deducting taxes and paying all overheads.

‘Dropout Chaiwala’ imports from India and employs Indian students to supplement their incomes through part-time work.

Later he explained how his parents were shocked to know there son had dropped out of college. “My parents were initially shocked that I had dropped out and then apprehensive that I was planning my own business venture. Melbourne is the world’s coffee capital and I was planning to open a tea joint” , Sanjith could finally Smile on his dreams come true.

Asar, an NRI, believed in his project and decided to invest in it.

Sanjith stated that their revenue will reach nearly 1 million AUD (RS. 5.2 Crore approx.) after tax deductions and payment of all overheads in the next month.

“The profit should be roughly 20 percent. In Australia, there is the ease of doing business if your ideas are in place”, he said.

He continues to import from India in order to provide locals with the taste of Indian tea.

He also stated that ‘Bombay Cutting’ is well-known among the local Indian community, and that Australians enjoy Indian’masala Chai’ and ‘Pakodas.’ The young entrepreneur plans to open a second location in Melbourne soon.

The 22-year-old also hired Indian students who work part-time to supplement their income.

“At Dropout Chaiwala, we don’t look at degrees when hiring people; we look at passion and hard work,” said the andhra man, who hopes to have a tea shop in every city in Australia. Sanjith, who chose chai over a degree, is now pursuing a degree in social work. He also wants his mother to pay him a visit and provide feedback on his tea.
