Have a Sneak Peak at New York Fashion Week-22

After an almost two-year absence, New York Fashion Week returns with in-person activity for Spring/Summer 2022.

Although there is restricted seating and the coveted fashion guests are always veiled, the mood of actual shows cannot be replaced by a virtual film. Aside from well-known names like Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, and Proenza Schouler returning to the roaster this season, there’s a slew of new talent making their debut.

Each represents fashion with a distinct voice and deserves to be in the spotlight.

Fashion, in reality, has never been immune to life’s realities. Do we sometimes prefer to lean into the runway fantasy rather than confront everything that exists outside of it? Without a doubt. It will, however, make its way in.

Whether it’s a minute of quiet for Ukraine at Armani or the more overt Armageddon at Balenciaga, the fashion industry is reacting to the world in all its contradictions now more than ever.

That isn’t to argue that a portion of the runway doesn’t also serve as a visual escape hatch. From robe jackets as self-care to equestrian vibes that help get us all back into nature, see how the trends are echoing our environment right now—or making it a little nicer, and glitzier, to help the collective deal.

Now, let us learn about the designers behind the scenes and view their latest collection from New York Fashion Week 2022.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors made a tremendous impression at New York Fashion Week!!

If Michael Kors understands anything, it’s New York City. Last season, for his 40th-anniversary collection, the designer paid tribute to New York with a show in the heart of the Theater District.

While the occasion’s hype was subdued by the COVID-19 epidemic, which prevented an audience from attending, his Spring/Summer 2022 collection more than makes up for it.

Prabal Gurung

Gurung’s gender play follows in the footsteps of Alessandro Michele, John Galliano, and Jean Paul Gaultier, all the way back to Louis XIV’s Versailles, as another Met exhibition, “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” revealed.

It has remained boundary pushing throughout the centuries, which is what makes it significant.

Proenza Schouler

Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough debuted their Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2022 collection to kick off New York Fashion Week.

A violin performance accompanied the runway as models such as Bella Hadid took the stage wearing corseted tops, casual suits, and more.

The show’s notes asked, “‘How do we find beauty in chaos and use it as a creative beginning point to build the future?”

Through a series of tailored clothing that hug the body, the designer partnership wanted to address the question “Where will we go next?” Using a technique that allows the components to be knit in circles, the designers created seamless corset shapes with comfort in mind.

These patterns were seen on loose-fitting jackets and strapless dresses.

Pops of color were given to a vibrant purple shirtdress and an animal print dress with glitchy wrinkled stitching throughout the neutral-toned design.

Peter Do

Peter Do debuted his namesake label in 2018, but before that, he worked at Céline under the mentorship of Pheobe Philo.

Even before his collection hit the runway, the designer’s clean tailoring and crisp suiting drew plaudits.

The label’s bespoke ensembles have been seen on a variety of fashion icons, including Zendaya and Anya Taylor Joy.

The design firm has taken loose fits for ladies to a whole new level with its NYFW Spring/Summer 2022 debut.

Saint Sintra

Saint Sintra was created in February of this year, and its fans include Olivia Rodrigo, Kali Uchis, and Kim Petras.

The designer drew inspiration for her Spring/Summer 2022 NYFW show from cartoons such as The Pink Panther and Star Trek, describing futuristic fantasy as the tone of her line.

The garments, which were a riot of color, symbolized optimism and were adorned with feathers and ornaments, silhouettes were jubilant, with corseted dresses and tulle skirts celebrating the return of normalcy.

Elena Velez

Elena Velez’s first NYFW presentation showcased industrial practicality through her line of edgy yet wearable garments.

To create structural silhouettes, she repurposed ship sails, steel beams, linen, denim, and PVC.

Her design story straddled the line between dystopian and functional by incorporating uncommon materials into contemporary apparel.

Deity New York

Renee Bishop

Renee Bishop, the designer behind Deity New York, debuted a vibrant and refined collection during New York Fashion Week.

The designer embodied a refined, yet toned-down look with earthy tones and elegant materials such as lace, beaded fringe, and silky textiles.

Bishop used traditionally structured items like blazers and incorporated her own feminine features to the design for “The Deity Woman,” which was inspired by the confident, strong Manhattanite.

Each style experimented with tasteful cutouts and distinctive silhouettes, with several of the looks being form-fitting but still allowing for movement.
